A hand carved wood statue with polychrome and gilt. After the original bronze statue by Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770-1844) in Mainz, Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany. Depicting the inventor, pressing a printed Bible against his chest with the left hand and holding press blocks with letters in his right hand. Stamped with two ink maker's stamps of Hans Grermarzoner from Mainz, Germany; signed in ink on the bottom, and has a round silvered label with a monogram, the maker's signature repeated a handwriting on the bottom as well as 'Handwercliche Arbeiten' ('hand made' in German) . Measures approx. 39-1/2"T x 14-1/2"W x 12"D.

"Speaking of Monuments". An original ink on paper illustration, signed in the lower right corner, approx. 19" x 22-1/2", framed in a black painted frame under glass overall approx. 20-3/4" x 24-1/4". Handed down in the family to the current owner. There is a clipping from the Cleveland Plain Dealer, 9-27-78, attached to the back of the framing referring to the artist, and an inscription written by a descendant indicating that the artist was an illustrator at the Plain Dealer from 1900-1949. Also a signed inscription stating that the piece was executed in 1906 with a citation to the book "Cleveland - The Making of a City" by William Ganson Rose, 1950.

Goodrich Company, Akron, Ohio, black and white lithograph, the image approx. 25" x 18", matted and framed under glass overall approx. 32" x 27-1/2". An amusing scene with workers float above the factory in an automobile carried by an elephant as if a blimp.

"Tabula Ducatus Brittaniae Gallis Le Gouvernem General De Bretagne" by an engraver Turonensi Aurel, published by Johann Baptist Homann in Nuremberg. The plate size is approx. 19-1/4" x 23-3/4" and overall size is approx. 20-7/8" x 25". Hand-coloring on laid paper with a watermark, depicting the Northwestern France Bretagne. The exquisitely decorated cartouche in the lower left corner depicts classical deities with a background of a river bank. Poseidon (god of the sea) is depicted sitting on a rock leaning over a flowing vase; nearby is a Nymph (river goddess) comforting him and two other figures in the water. Two cherubs appear to measure the plinth in water with a measuring rope. The cartouche is topped with Bretagne Ducal crown above the Ducal coat-of-arms supporting by three cherubs. There is a town plan of Brest under curtain holding by two cherubs. The map is not hinged to a backing board and unmatted.

"Mappe Monde a l'usage du Roy Par Guillaume De Lisle Premier Geographe de S.M." The plate size is approx. 17-6/8" x 27-1/8" and overall size is approx. 22-3/4" x 31-1/8". From a private portfolio collection with "G. Wills Esqr" ink stamp on verso. A copper plate engraved map on the paper, hand-coloured in outline, under the glass with a gilt frame. Map was created for the French king's personal use. Depicting a double hemispheres each 13-1/2"D. An exquisite hand colored title cartouche depicting the Royal coat-of-arms of France encircled with The Royal Order of St. Michael and The Royal Order of the Holy Spirit under the royal crown. Four allegorical figures of Europe, America, Asia, and Africa are surrounding the coat-of-arms and the heraldic title ribbon is running in the wind behind them. There is a cartouche in the lower middle part of the image with the mention of Amsterdam publishers Jean Covens and Corneille Mortier.

"A New Improved Map of Oxfordshire from the Best Surveys and Intelligences..." published by a cartographer Thomas Kitchin. The plate size is approx. 28-3/8" x 21-1/8" and overall size is approx. 29-3/8" x 22-3/8". A copper plate engraved map on the laid paper, hand-coloured in outline. An elaborate cartouche topped with Dukes of Marlborough coat-of-arms in the upper right corner encircles a Dedication to Charles Spencer, 3rd Duke of Marlborough (1706-1758) . An exquisitely decorative title cartouche depicting three idle students at the sight of architectural composition with different symbolic scholars' attributes topped with cherubs, and a list of 'The Twenty Colleges in Oxford' in the lower left corner. There are also two lists of 'Earls of Oxford' and 'Seats of the Nobility'. Map imprint 'Printed for J. Bowels in St. Pauls Church Yard, John Bowels & Son, in Cornhil, Robt. Sayer & John Tinney in Fleet Street' in the lower middle margine. The map is not hinged to a backing board and unmatted.
